Tell me the truth!

Tell me the truth - Teacher with teenage studentsIssue – Truth
How do you know when someone is telling the truth or when you should tell the truth?

Tools
Truth is about perception of accuracy. Share your perception not as fact (i.e. closed minded), but rather as “This was my experience…” This creates a space for dialogue and understanding. When one is overly confident in their truth, it is perceived as attacking. It can be inferred that this person must be wrong/lying if they need to be so righteous.

Goal
Parents and kids get caught up in what is the truth to the point of it becoming a power struggle, fight, breach of trust, etc. A parent and child process information through their senses equating to a different perception/truth. The truth is to understand what’s underneath the perception by creating a space to talk about ideas, feelings, and needs.
