Therapeutic Service for Children, Families, and Adults
Philosophy: Dr. Stein understands the impact of the community on the family. Families participating together in a workshop create an opportunity to develop and change community.
How does it work? The workshops utilize a unique combination of art/play therapy and parenting skills (Dr. Stein’s model of Pro-Active Parenting) to engage children, and further the interaction between parents and children. This process of exploring family values and ideals empowers the family to utilize their strengths, learn new skills, and work toward creating a community to support their needs.
What to expect? The focus is on children developing the ability to express themselves to their parents and for parents to provide support, guidance, and empathy.
How does the workshop meet your family/community’s needs? Dr. Stein is able to develop a unique curriculum to meet the needs of the families in the target community. Please contact him for more details.
An example of a workshop by Dr. Stein: This three-hour special ‘Build-A-Bridge’ workshop will provide tools for parents and children to develop a supportive, structured family environment. Dr. Stein will lead families in the group activity of building a bridge. Parents and children will be responsible for designing a bridge, assigning tasks and responsibilities, and using various arts and crafts materials to complete an actual 3-D bridge. This is a symbolic activity that emphasizes the importance of working together, focusing on individual and group goals, communication skills, and organization skills. The second half, Dr. Stein will present his unique model of ‘Pro-Active Parenting’, which offers strategies for providing consistent routines, rituals, and expectations within your family. This workshop focuses on providing positive interventions for parents and children to build a healthier and happier family environment.
